Pat ‘The Clock’ Byrne

Patrick, a fiddler, was born and reared in the townland of Cill Chathasaigh but emigrated to the USA when he was quite young. He was only a short time there when his father passed away and Pat had to move back home to look after the family holding. He is remembered as being very clever and inventive. He repaired various items such as bicycles, clocks, radios and even musical instruments which earned him the local name ‘Pat the Clock’. Pat was one of the first in the area to have a photographic camera, and many of the earliest images still in existence from Gleann an Bhaile Dhuibh were taken by Pat in the nineteen twenties. Neighbouring players included Peter Cunningham, Peter Carr and Francie Gillespie.
