T.8 Laddie wi’ the Pladdie & Captain Campbell (highlands).

The first tune is Jim’s version of this otherwise well-known highland. It has also been published in Scotland as The Rose Among the Heather. Jim’s version equates with that published in Kerr’s First Collection of Merrie Melodieswith the parts played in reverse order. He learned it from his father. The second tune is Jim’s version of the tune which has its origins in the Scottish strathspey,Captain Campbell, which was published as early as the 1780s. In its highland form it has been popular with Donegal fiddlers. Though different, it shows similarities with Molly Gharbh, number 24 below.
